Escape to our enchanting Swiss Cottage nestled in the picturesque Wasatch Mountains, just minutes to the renowned Solitude and Brighton ski resorts. Originally crafted in 1968 amidst ancient pines, this cozy haven has been meticulously renovated for your utmost comfort and security. Immerse yourself in the timeless charm of this intimate retreat, reminiscent of classic Swiss chalets in Zermatt, curated by a professional designer. Ideal for families and small groups seeking an alpine experience.

The space

Bedrooms:
The cottage has 1 bedroom and a loft area with 2 sleeping nooks. The cottage can accommodate between 6 and 8 guests comfortably.

Bedroom 1 - Indulge in the spacious luxury of the master bedroom, featuring a queen bed with a new premium mattress. The modern design blends comfort and style seamlessly, offering a serene retreat that invites rest and relaxation.

Sleeping Loft - Perfect for kids or adults, you'll find 4 single beds each with new premium mattresses.

In addition, there is a large sectional couch in the living room which some guests choose to take advantage of as a great place to catch a nap and/or sleep a full night next to the fireplace. We also provide a portable crib for those traveling with young children.

Bathroom:
You'll find 1 sparkling clean and fully stocked bathroom with bright lighting, large mirrors, and hotel-grade towels in the cottage. The sunken tub is loved by guests and also doubles as a shower. The cottage is fully stocked with high-quality organic shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

Kitchen:
Prepare a quick snack or a large feast in the fully stocked kitchen. Your kitchen features beautiful quartz countertops and modern appliances with everything you will need to cook magnificent dinners. We have both Keurig and drip coffee machines and provide Keurig coffee (including decaf) and hot cocoa for your enjoyment.

The dining area is perfect for enjoying a meal with your group and guests. The indoor dining table has enough chairs for 6 guests and additional living room seating if needed. You'll find high-end dinnerware with place settings for 8.

You'll find a full spice rack and all of the pots, pans, and other cooking utensils you'll need to make Thanksgiving dinner (or something less ambitious of course). The kitchen and dining room flow effortlessly into the spacious living room, with vaulted cathedral ceilings and large windows letting the natural light and scenery in. Whether you want to open up your laptop to plan adventures for the day, host a dinner party, or just want to take things easy, this open-concept living room gives you all the space you need.

Living Room:
Soaring vaulted ceilings with open beams and large windows allow the light to fill the room.
A large stone fireplace that heats the space quickly and provides amazing ambiance night and day
Large sectional couch that can easily accommodate your entire group

Large 50" Smart TV with all major streaming services

Oversized leather chairs from the Sundance

The catalog provides a great spot by the fireplace for reading or relaxing.

Historic Home:
The cottage was originally built in 1968 by a rocket scientist (true story). We are the 3rd owners of the home. The natural rock fireplace is made out of slate stone that the original owner gathered from the Storm Mountain area of the canyon which wouldn't be legal to do today. When we remodeled, we considered removing it but opted to keep as much of the historic features of the home while ensuring that it is comfortable, up to date with modern appliances and features and safe.

Outside Space:
The cottage is situated on a half-acre of private property with old growth Engleman spruce trees covering the area. Lounge on the large deck, fire up the gas BBQ or enjoy smores by the campfire outside your front door. Hop up in one of the hammocks and enjoy a good book or a nap with the cool mountain breeze as your companion!

There is ample parking for 2 cars year-round. In the summer, there is space for a 3rd additional car if needed.

House Rules

Welcome to Swiss Cottage! We hope you enjoy your stay!

HOUSE RULES

1. Parking - There are two parking spots in front of the cottage. Please park in the driveway and not on the neighborhood roads outside the cottage. The roads can be narrow making it difficult for neighbors to get by. If you need additional parking, you may be able park on the main canyon road (summer only). Please know that we cannot be responsible for any lost items or damage regardless of where you park your car.

2. NO FIRES - Due to high fire danger, the fire department has BANNED ALL outdoor fires / open flames of any kind. Guests who light a fire may be cited by police and/or the fire department and are in violation of house rules. Guests are also liable for the spread of any wildfire.

3. Neighbors and Quiet Hours (No Parties)- The neighborhood is very small and very quiet. Please be respectful of the neighbors in terms of noise. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 7 am. Our house rules specifically state that there are No Parties allowed. Neighbors are very likely to call the police and report a party and/or excessive noise. We want your stay to be a positive experience for everyone involved so please don’t risk it. The property is equipped with a device that monitors the environment inside the property (including noise levels, temperature, and motion) to ensure guests have a pleasant stay and our neighbors are not disturbed. The device does not record any sound (and does not have a camera). The device will notify the host if it detects a large number of people, smoke in the cottage and/or noise levels that would create a disturbance. We want everyone to have an enjoyable experience. In general, most of my neighbors like to keep to themselves so if you have questions, please ask me.

4. Dogs and Pets - Please remember that there are no pets allowed in the cottage at any time. Dogs are specifically prohibited in Big Cottonwood Canyon as it is a watershed and the police frequently issue fines (even if the dog is kept in a car).

5. Trash - there are bears (and other animals) in the canyon and so we ask that you not leave any trash or trash bags outside at any time. There are two spots to dump trash and recycling included in the guidebook at the property. We pay for access to these dumpsters on a monthly basis so they are yours to use.

6. Water- our water comes from natural springs in the area. They flow at a lower rate in the winter time. Showers will be hot but please don't run longer than needed and help us to conserve winter water. If you have any problems with water during your stay, please let us know ASAP as we want you to be comfortable.

7. Ski storage - We kindly ask that you do NOT bring SKIs or POLES into the cabin. We suggest that you store those either on your vehicle or if you would like in the shed adjacent to the driveway (it is unlocked). We DO provide dryers for boots and gloves inside the cabin as well as hooks for coats and pants. We want your gear to be nice and dry every morning! Note that the cabin does have a combination washer and dryer for your use, however, it is not well-suited to drying wet ski gear.

8. Safety: You acknowledge that you are in an alpine environment where snow, ice and other natural hazards may be present on any surface at any time (including but not limited to falling snow and ice). As your hosts, we have made reasonable efforts to make the surroundings as safe as possible for all guests, however, we are not responsible for any injury or accident associated with your stay. Guests acknowledge that snow removal may occur at any time during their stay, day or night, in an effort to ensure safety and accessibility. Host will make reasonable efforts to remove new or heavy snow, however, natural events may prevent us from doing so (we provide a shovel by the door for guest use). Guests are not to attempt to use or play on any snow removal equipment other than the shovel provided. Guests agree to exercise caution and good judgement to avoid accident and injury and follow all posted signs and warnings in and around the cottage. Guests accept all risks and liability for any injury, accident or theft and agree to hold the host harmless from all damages, litigation or other responsibility. Do not attempt to climb on the roof. Doing so can result in serious injury or death. Doing so will result in loss of your security deposit and additional fees.

9. Communication and Feedback - we want your experience to be amazing and we want to earn a 5 star review from you. If there is anything we can do to make your stay better, please contact us via the AirBnB app ASAP. And when you leave, please be sure to leave us a review. It helps us know what we’re doing well and helps other travelers know what they can expect. Thank You!

Thanks again. We hope you enjoy the cottage as much as we do!

Excellent, highly recommend for a peaceful private stay in the mountains.

We loved staying at this cozy and charming little cabin. We would absolutely stay again!

Cute place, well equipped, exactly as listed.

We only stayed at the chalet for one night, but we enjoyed it so much! The Christmas lights outside were a lovely touch and the painting outside of the house made for a cool spot to take pictures. It is pretty close to the road, but we were never bothered by the traffic. It was clean and my kids loved the kid cave. It was a little warm up in the loft, but that is to be expected in a cabin in late July. The stairs up to the loft are spiraled and awesome! We got dinner ahead of time and just camped out and watched a movie. We did a puzzle that they had in the closet and enjoyed the sunken tub. It was a great place to stay before spending the next day in Park City. We would have loved to do a fire, but fires aren't allowed late summer in most of the Wasatch. Understandable. Overall, we loved our stay and would recommend.

Cute little house in a very peaceful area. It was clean and had everything we needed. We had trouble with the dvd player but streaming worked perfectly. If you have adults sleeping in the loft just know the spiral staircase is tight. Our 17 yr old loved it up there though.

Beautiful place

It was a majestic place to stay ! Beautiful surroundings with wildlife outside the windows . Just taking in the fresh air was enough for me! The flowers surrounding the cabin were mesmerizing! Great place to stay with your family! Can’t wait to come back !

We had a really good time staying here. The mountains are beautiful and the cabin is darling and cozy. It’s smaller than the pictures look, but was still fun nonetheless. There’s no air conditioning so at times it got a little hot. When we checked in, there were tons of dead bugs we vacuumed up. And then while we stayed, there were lots of bugs inside the house the whole time we were there. Mostly flies and moths. It was a little annoying. We had all doors and windows shut so there must have been another way they were getting into the house. Other than that it was pretty fun. The owners were very responsive to any questions we had or help we needed. I would recommend staying here. :)

Beautiful location very quiet and private. My wife and I loved it.

Incredible stay at Ben’s place! Beautiful setting and close enough to Salt Lake City to get there easily but far enough away to get away from the crowds!

Beautiful outdoor area. Very enjoyable evenings on the back deck.

Great place. It was clean and comfy and we even saw a moose.

Ben - Thank you for the experience. Everything went perfectly! I want to go buy a cabin now!

Nice location in big cottonwood, close to a few major trail heads. Easy to beat the crowds when you’re right next door!

Nice cabin near Solitude and Brighton Ski areas - our family of 5 enjoyed our stay for late season snow in early April and as a home base the cabin worked well. Spectacular location, well appointed, and priced right. We ate most of our meals there and all features of the cabin were as noted. Our children loved playing in the deep snow in the yard and we enjoyed the coziness of the place. A couple of important points: 1) The upstairs beds (4 singles) are up a steep spiral stair and primarily accessible by children. Adults can get up there but its a tight fit and you are in a loft overlooking the living room. 2) The bathroom tub/shower is sunken in the floor of the bathroom and takes a step down to get into it. and 3) You have mountain internet way up there so its sometimes decent and sometimes not so much, but they have a huge selection of DVDs if you can't stream something else. It snowed on us about 18" one day and the roads were not terrible but a 4x4 is required.

Great place very close to Solitude. Ben the host was very helpful throughout. Highly recommend!

Great location for those wanting to ski Solitude and Brighten. Very unique and special home. Great host.

Ben was an amazing host. Not only did he provide extra of things we needed, he also got our group parking passes for all three days! He was extremely kind and flexible. I’ll definitely stay here during my next trip to SLC!

We had an amazing stay at Ben’s cabin! It was warm, cozy and clean. Proximity to both Solitude and Brighton was perfect. Ben was super responsive and had a ton of recommendations for things to do in the area. Check-in and out was fast and efficient. We were bummed our trip wasn’t longer-the house is a lovely sanctuary in the mountains!

Great location that is super close to Solitude and Brighton! The place is cute with a definite fun Swiss decor. Ben was super responsive and even helped us get parking reservations at the ski resort. We would stay there again!

Ben was a great host and very attentive! All directions to the place were well explained, and everything was well organized, clean, and labeled making things easy to find during our stay. Super appreciative to have gotten the chance to stay here!

Nice and peaceful place to stay

Ben was an excellent host! This was the most beautiful, convenient location and the perfect getaway for my family. The cabin is minutes away from slopes and sledding hill. The cottage is clean, and cozy and it had everything we needed and more. Our family loved the time we spent in this beautiful cabin, and I would recommend it to anyone considering staying here.

We loved staying at the chalet. There was heat, natural spring water and lots of charm. Perfect and easy location if you are skiing Brighton and Solitude. Ben was very responsive with any questions. Thanks for another great cabin stay for my family.

This cabin was perfect in every way! It was like walking into a small Suisse chalet. The whole experience was wonderful. We can’t wait to stay there again. Would recommend this place to everyone!

Great little getaway at this Chalet!! it was beautiful, quaint, and clean. Our fall trip here was amazing in these beautiful Utah mountains. So many easy or adventurous hikes close by. Ben communicates well and was always so kind and responsive.

Great mountain cabin! This place had everything we needed and Ben was a great host. We will be back!

This was such a great place to stay! It was a great location to all the activities at solitude ski resort, and great hikes right across the street or a few minutes away. Ben was a great host and the communication with the host was amazing. We had a great time and would highly recommend staying here! The cabin was very clean and super up kept and cozy.

I am 66 and my friend is 70. We loved the place but just a heads up on a couple of things. The small spiral staircase that goes up to the loft with 4 twin beds is perfect for kids and or very fit people and is adorable, but not practical for anyone who has any mobility issues or who needs to go to the bathroom (which is a trip down the small spiral staircase) in the night. The house is next to the main canyon road which makes it easier to get into during ski season but not so great in the summer and fall due to traffic noise if you spend any time outside on the deck. The bathtub and shower are great if you are in good shape as the tub is built into the floor so you have to get down on the floor to get into the tub. Once again not a problem for most, and it is a very nice shower and tub. The fireplace is electric. the house is charming and provides everything you would need for a nice vacation. The bedroom has a comfortable queen-size bed and nice bedding. Overall I do recommend it!!

The cottage was charming and a great getaway from the city. Communication with the owners was good.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. First time exploring the area and this was a great place to be near but away from the city itself. Hosts were extremely helpful with recommendations and responsive to any questions we had. Extremely cute decorations and theme. We didn’t need the loft space but it seemed to be as described. We cooked all of our meals and the kitchen had everything we needed. One of the most relaxing stays I’ve had to date, it was just so comfortable.

A lot of heart and soul has been poured into this home - and it was definitely felt during our stay. It will always be a sweet memory for my son and I. Thank you for all the love that came with this stay.

Excellent house, location, and communication! Master bedroom downstairs, four beds upstairs in a loft. The cabin was very cozy but modern appliances. We came to hike and did fantastic trails just minutes driving away (there's even a trail directly across from the cabin). Highly recommend

We really enjoyed our stay in this cozy cabin. Very clean space that was easy to kick back and relax during our stay. Ben was thoughtful and communicated well with us throughout our visit. Beautiful place to enjoy the mountains!

Utah locals, my husband and I needed a getaway while we finished up some renovations. Ben & Niki's ski cottage was perfect! We went on several nearby hikes and found their space to be clean, cozy and very relaxing. Nicely stocked and very put together. Thank you for letting us enjoy your home!

Ben was an excellent host and the cabin was everything we wanted. Would totally stay again. We had a great time!

Sweet and comfortable cottage. Very clean and spacious.

Our second time staying at Ben & Niki’s place, but certainly not the last! The Swiss Cottage is a little slice of heaven. Beautifully decorated & comfortable, and very well-priced for the area. If you love to hike like we do, there are more hikes than you can count within just a few miles of the cabin. Ben & Niki are responsive, friendly; and want to make your stay perfect. We can’t wait to come back!

We loved our stay at the cabin. The weather was amazing, and the wildflowers were magnificent. The cabin is small but laid out well. The loft is cute but definitely meant for kids or petite adults. As for essentials, the cabin had everything we needed. would definitely stay again.

Ben’s place was perfect for our family of four young children. Ben was the most communicative, responsive hosts I’ve ever had. Truly a pleasure. His cabin was squeaky clean and exactly as pictured. Beds were comfy, kitchen was well stocked, and the home was beautifully decorated. There were toys and games for our children to play with (always a plus). We loved hearing the creek every morning. The neighborhood is great to walk or hike in the mountain behind it, and the neighbors were also very friendly. Perfect spot in the canyon. We definitely hope to return!

Ben was a great host who was incredibly helpful and responsive, and also gave plenty of privacy and space. The house itself was VERY clean and the beds were good. The house was closer to the road than expected but the location, which is smack dab in the middle of the mountains and near trails, river and waterfalls could not be beat. It was all in all a very comfortable stay - thanks so much!

This place is sweet, super close to Solitude and Brighton. Can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful cabin in the canyon. Well-stocked kitchen, and comfortable beds. Great decor, felt like we were in the Alps. Wifi wasn't gigabit but was fast enough to take zoom meetings comfortably. If you're traveling in the winter, I'd recommend to have a 4x4 with good tire tread.

amazing spot tucked below Solitude. Great value for a ski trip minutes from the mountains!

Ben was an Amazing host, very responsive and checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. The house is amazing, perfect for a family of four, it’s a very charming house and very close to Brighton and Solitude. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back. Thank you, Kathy Saffell

Excellent host. Very communicative and accommodating. Ensured that we were plowed out early everyday to be able to get to the ski resort early (even with EPIC snowstorms!!!!!). Ben also made recommendations about things to do downtown. Kitchen was totally sufficient for cooking meals. Common space was nice for hanging out. Enjoyed the fireplace. Comfortable beds.

Loved our stay at Ben’s place! Right down the street from Brighton and solitude resorts which makes it the perfect ski retreat. Would definitely stay again!
